SUPERFOODS

In our culture of super-hype on superfoods, it’s hard to distinguish between what is magic and what is just food. All rhymes aside, there are a few foods according to Kamal Patel’s 4 science-based “superfoods” you should consider eating, that prove to be very beneficial. 

  1. Garlic has been proven to lower blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and is a great antioxidant. Not only does it have these great benefits, but it’s super easy to add to your diet. It can be added to sautéed spinach, all types of meats, and plenty of other courses. 
  2. Dark Berries are one of the best antioxidants out there. Not only are they a great recovery tool for exercise, but studies have shown that dark berries can improve memory in elderly people. Plus, they're berry good.
  3. Spirulina, an algae that can be taken as a supplement, is another great addition to your diet. Not only does it have 55-70% protein content, but it also has anti-inflammatory qualities to it. Taste-wise, it’s not the best, but the effects could be worth it.
  4. Leafy greens (which I am actually eating as a I write this!) are known to reduce blood pressure. They also provide a great range of nutrients and should be a staple in most people’s diet. 

Overall, there are many differing articles and views on what “superfoods” really are. But what is important is what makes you feel the best so you can be super-you.
