K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Stupid)

If you want confusion, the fitness, nutrition and supplement industries have your back.

There is no shortage of people and companies that are more than willing to confuse the crap out of you to sound smart and get you to buy their courses, products and coaching programs.

Maybe this is why I've stayed away from all three and stuck to my consulting role. It allows me to be unbiased and stay free of dogmatic concepts.

I am free to change my mind whenever I want based on new research and frankly what I've been experimenting with on my own body.

If you want simplicity, I've got your back.

So, in the interest of looking better, feeling better and being happier, here are three tips you already know but probably need a reminder of.

1) Sleep: I used to recommend 8 hours per night but I've realized that for me, the optimal amount is 9. When I get my 9, I recover better, have less inflammation, use less caffeine, have less cravings, have more motivation to smash my workouts, have more patience with my kids and am a better husband. Start here if you're struggling in any of these categories. If you think you don't have time to sleep this much, read this article and come back.

2) Water: 8 cups per day? Half your body weight in ounces? Let's keep it simple here. Drink water when thirsty, lots of it. Not juice, kombucha, diet soda, coconut water or anything else. Water. When. Thirsty. That's it. Keep it simple stupid.

3) Eliminate sugar, stevia, sugar alcohols and artificial sweeteners. Sweet stuff makes you want more sweet stuff. Period. Doesn't matter if it supposedly doesn't affect your blood sugar or have any calories. Best way to get your sweets is through berries. Only acceptable time to have sugar alcohols is right before a long car ride with people you don't like, in which case you can torture them with the nastiest farts on earth every 2 minutes. Good times!!

While it's tempting to go on with more tips, that would violate the K.I.S.S principle. Honestly, these three tips will get you 90% of the way to where you want to be. Whether it's fat loss, reduction of joint pain or having more energy, I guarantee you'll see improvement.
